Error Description:
When attempting to run the Primavera P6 EPPM Database Setup R8.1 for Microsoft SQL Server 2005, the following error is encountered:
SQLServerException: The TCP/IP connection to the host [name], port 1433 has failed. Error: “Connection refused: connect. Verify the connection properties, check that an instance of SQL Server is running on the host and accepting TCP/IP connections at the port, and that no firewall is blocking TCP/IP connections to the port.”
Reason:
This SQLServerException message appears when attempting to connect to a Microsoft SQL Server database. It occurs when using the Connection Information dialog of the Primavera P6 EPPM Database Setup R8.1 program.
New installations of Microsoft SQL Server have the TCP/IP port disabled by default so the Connection information dialog is unable to connect. Assuming you have entered all the parameters correctly in the Connection Information dialog (see example below), the following steps will correct this issue.
Solution:
- Run the SQL Server Configuration Manager.
- Expand the SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration item.
- Select the Protocols for SQLEXPRESS item.
- Right-click on TCP/IP.
- Select Enable.
- Next, right-click on TCP/IP and choose Properties.
- Click on the IP Addresses tab.
- In the IPALL section, enter the port number 1433 in the TCP Portfield.
- Click Apply.
- Click OK.
- Close the SQL Server Configuration Manager.
- Finally go to the Windows Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services area and Stop and then Start the SQL Server (Express) service for the changes to take affect.
The Primavera P6 EPPM Database Setup R8.1 Configuration Information dialog should now connect to your SQL Server Express database.
